Don Pedro Post 6-5 Fire
Thursday, September 11, 2025
Given this week’s slightly cooler weather, and the prediction that temperatures would be back up next week, I took the opportunity to spend today on Don Pedro Reservoir. The water was mostly glassy throughout the morning, with windy conditions starting mid-afternoon. Fishing was tough overall, but I was able to squeak out a limit of largemouths and spotted bass. My first stop was at the confluence of the Tuolumne and Woods Creek. There were a lot of fish feeding on the surface, and I managed to pick up the one on a gold Zara Spook. I then headed further up into Woods Creek, picking up a fish on a weightless Senko in Bathroom Cove. When I made it up to the 5 mph buoys, there was a bunch of surface action. I had a few fish slap at my offering, and even hooked one, but couldn't put any in the boat. Once the wind came up, I headed back to the main river and tried the steep left bank in the cove where the floating bathroom is located, picking up two spots on small plastics. I ended the day fishing the Tuolumne itself, from that point all the way back to the 120 bridge. I picked up several fish on plastics, mostly on points, with most of them being sub-legal. After heading out of Woods Creek I took a ride up Six Bit Gulch to check out the results of the 6-5 fire that recently destroyed most of Chinese Camp. The area there burned, on both sides of the arm, all the way down to the high-water mark (see photo below). Being in there was eerie, so after taking a few pictures I headed out without casting a line.
